Arts From The Heart (AFTH) is back with its 4th edition of its annual charity carnival and fun run. AFTH is no newcomer to Singapore’s charitable event scene. It is an annual event steeped in tradition that was launched by Nanyang Technological University’s Cultural Activities Club (CAC) back in 2004. Many would have thought that AFTH is an event that showcases just the arts, but it’s not just that. Arts From The Heart is an annual charity event that helps to raise funds and awareness for an adopted beneficiary. This year, AFTH partnered with the Singapore Cancer Society and is looking to sustain a long-term partnership such that more can be done for the cancer community in Singapore.

This year’s event, which took place at Gardens By The Bay (Bay East Bridge) on 24 June 2018, comprised of a fun run, a carnival and an array of exciting performances. In addition to all carnival ticket sale proceeds going towards charity, every kilometre completed by participants in the fun run was matched to a $1.50-donation by Main Sponsor Young Scientists Pte Ltd.

AFTH also serves as a platform for member clubs of NTU CAC to play a part in contributing back to society and promoting arts through cultural performances. We hope to integrate performing arts with kindness from the heart, by performing with a greater sense of purpose and bringing joy to the less fortunate. The performance line-up included dance items by NTU CAC Contemp{minated}, as well as music performances by NTU CAC Harmonix and Jazz & Blues.

The carnival theme for this year’s edition of AFTH is ‘When Worlds Collide’. It represents people from all walks of life coming together during the event and doing their part for the cancer society in Singapore. Following the theme, activity booths featured the 4 elements – Fire, Water, Earth and Air, just like the American animated series, Avatar: The Last Airbender.

By flag-off time, runners were eager to focus all of that pent-up energy on the race for a cause that pays immediate dividends: For every kilometre clocked in the fun run, the event’s official main sponsor, Young Scientist donated $1.50 to SCS. Participants could run as many rounds as they wished, within the stipulated timing of 2.5 hours. Through the fun run, it motivates participants to do their part for the cancer community in Singapore.

Through the fun run, a total of 1, 500 km was clocked. Funds raised this event through ticket sales and distance clocked went towards SCS, which supports the provision of cancer treatment subsidies, financial and welfare aid to needy cancer patients.

With that, AFTH 2018 has come to an end. We hope to still seek your support for our upcoming events! Meanwhile, Like us on Facebook or Follow us on Instagram for first hand sneaks on what we’re up to!
